Hawaii civil unions backed by a majority in state House
A majority in the state House has signed on to a bill that would legalize civil unions, giving the issue a genuine chance of advancing this session after years of stagnation.
Civil unions seem likely for Hawaii
32 of the 51 members of the Hawaii State House have signed onto a bill that would provide for civil unions in the Aloha State, making it seem likely that the bill will pass this legislative session. The bill would recognize civil unions, domestic partnerships and same-sex marriages performed in other states and would overturn a 1998 ban on same-sex marriage in the state. The bill had previously stalled in the House, so what changed the legislators minds?
Hawaii civil union bill gains steam
A majority in the state House has signed on as co-sponsors of a bill that would give same-sex couples in Hawaii all of the rights of marriage but without the name. But whether the bill will make it to a vote on the floor depends on just a couple of committee members who are expressing reservations.
